MARION COUNTY, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents to a recent scam involving a fraudulent phone call from an individual posing as a Lieutenant from their office. A Marion citizen reported receiving a call from a male subject who falsely claimed that she had an outstanding warrant for her arrest. The caller offered a way to resolve the situation “civilly” by demanding a payment of $25,000 to avoid arrest.
Sheriff Bayles emphasized, “The Marion County Sheriff’s Office will never contact anyone regarding a warrant and demand money in lieu of arrest. This is a clear scam.” Residents are urged to remain vigilant and never provide personal or bank account information over the phone.
If you suspect that you have fallen victim to a scam or received a suspicious call, please contact the Marion County Sheriff’s Office immediately at 740-382-8244.
