MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—On January 28, 2024, at 10:34 a.m., Marion Police responded swiftly to an armed robbery at the Marion Smoke Shop located at 420 E. Center St. The suspect, who brandished a knife and threatened the store clerk, demanded cash before fleeing the scene.

The suspect, identified as Kevin Smale, 37, of Marion, was apprehended later the same day. Smale now faces charges of Aggravated Robbery and Kidnapping in connection with the incident.

Marion Police Chief Jay McDonald expressed relief that the violent act did not result in any physical injuries to the victim. “These very serious crimes are felony 1 level crimes and can result in lengthy prison sentences. I am thankful that this serious offender is off the street,” said McDonald.
