MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—The north-facing steps of Heritage Hall, a site synonymous with milestone moments in local history, will serve as the backdrop for a new chapter in the city’s story this month.

On Monday, Jan. 12, 2026, the community will officially launch the America 250 Marion celebration. The year-long series of events is designed to honor the 250th anniversary of the United States while highlighting Marion’s specific contributions to the nation’s past, present, and future.

The festivities begin at 12:00 p.m. outside Heritage Hall, located at 169 E. Church St. in downtown Marion. Local and state officials will join America 250 Marion committee members and community partners for a ceremonial ribbon cutting and a commemorative photo.

“These steps have long served as a backdrop for Marion’s history,” organizers said in a statement. “They will once again take center stage as we celebrate the American spirit right here at home.”

Following the outdoor portion of the event, the ceremony will move inside to the lower-level auditorium. Attendees will hear official proclamations from state and local leaders, as well as remarks detailing the upcoming events planned for the semiquincentennial year.

The America 250 Marion initiative is part of a broader national effort to engage Americans in a non-partisan commemoration of the country’s founding in 1776. Local organizers say the Marion chapter will focus on community heritage and civic pride.

The public is encouraged to attend the kickoff to learn more about how Marion will participate in this historic national milestone.
