COLUMBUS, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—The Alzheimer’s Association is calling on Central Ohio residents to participate in the 2025 Marion Walk to End Alzheimer’s®, scheduled for Saturday, September 27, at The Marion Campus. The event begins at 8 a.m. with registration, followed by the Promise Garden Ceremony at 9 a.m. and the walk immediately after.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest fundraising event for the disease, with proceeds supporting the Alzheimer’s Association’s free educational programs, support groups, care services, and research.

“Walk to End Alzheimer’s is a day filled with emotion, inspiration, inclusion and hope,” said Matt Austin, manager of the Marion Walk. “Our Walks bring people together and reassure them that they’re not alone in their journey. Every step we take as a community takes us closer to a cure and to achieving our mission of a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia. Now, more than ever, it’s crucial that we raise money that directly benefits Central Ohioans.”

Participants will carry Promise Garden flowers, with each color representing their personal connection to the disease, in a show of solidarity. Participation is free, and walkers can set fundraising goals to earn incentives.

The event, which is chaired by Lynda Schrader, is sponsored by United Church Homes, Presidential Post Acute, Marion Valley Post Acute, Pillar Credit Union, and Tranquility Hospice.

The Alzheimer’s Association reports that for the first time, more than 7 million people in the U.S. are living with Alzheimer’s, including 236,200 in Ohio. Deaths due to Alzheimer’s more than doubled between 2000 and 2022.
