MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Mayor Bill Collins has announced the first-ever “Mayor’s Downtown Walk-a-Bout for Seniors,” inviting all seniors to explore the heart of Marion.
This free and informative walk will take place on the first Wednesday of each month, from 10 a.m. to noon, spanning from May through August. The inaugural Walk-a-Bout kicked off on May 7.
Led by Bob Goyer, owner of the historic Huber Home and a dedicated downtown advocate, each event will highlight different aspects of Marion’s downtown. The journey begins on the front porch of the Huber Historic Home, located at 416 E. Church St. (parking available in the rear), and will venture through the downtown area before returning to the Huber Home.
Participants can expect visits to unique shops, restaurants, and healthcare facilities, as well as insights into downtown parking and senior-friendly amenities. The event promises light exercise in a welcoming and social setting, offering a chance to meet new friends and engage with the community.
“We want our seniors to experience all the great things happening in downtown Marion,” said Mayor Collins. “With Bob leading the way, participants will gain valuable knowledge while enjoying the outdoors and good company.”
Upcoming dates for the Walk-a-Bout are June 4th, July 2nd, and August 6th. The June 4th event will include a tour of one of downtown’s loft apartments.
In case of inclement weather, the Walk-a-Bout will be rescheduled for the following Wednesday.
