MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Marion Mayor Bill Collins has issued a veto against legislation that would have prohibited city employees from using Flock Safety cameras, effectively blocking a measure passed by the City Council earlier this month.

The City Council approved the ban in a narrow 5-4 vote on Aug. 10. The proposed ordinance sought to bar anyone representing the City of Marion from utilizing the technology, with the legislation specifying that any violation would result in a misdemeanor charge.

The veto follows months of persistent debate within the council regarding the use of the surveillance technology.

With the legislation now stalled, the city continues to navigate the contentious issue of police tools and public oversight.

Marion County Now will continue to cover this developing story.
