MORROW COUNTY, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—A tense standoff between law enforcement and a suspect concluded peacefully on Friday evening, after an extended hours-long incident that began with reported gunfire.

The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic dispute call around 2 a.m., only to be met with gunfire as deputies arrived on the scene. In response, a tactical unit from the neighboring Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, equipped with armored vehicles, was deployed to assist.

According to the sheriff’s office, the suspect identified as 18-year-old James Gompers was at his parents’ home. They contacted authorities due to concerns over multiple firearms and weapons he had in his possession.

The standoff, which resulted in blocked roads and an extensive law enforcement presence, lasted until approximately 5:15 p.m. when Gompers surrendered peacefully, exiting the residence with his hands raised.

Law enforcement officials praised the resolution of the situation, attributing the peaceful conclusion to a “team effort” among various agencies involved.
