MOUNT GILEAD, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—The Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a tragic traffic accident that occurred early Sunday morning, November 17, 2024, at approximately 3:52 a.m. The incident took place on State Route 95 near milepost 14 in Franklin Township, Morrow County.

According to authorities, Abdul Mohammed, 29, was driving a 2013 Nissan Altima westbound on State Route 95, accompanied by two passengers, Sandeep Yadav, 27, and Mahammad Ahmad, 31. At the same time, Isaac Patrick Dela Cruz, 19, was traveling eastbound in a 2024 Honda Civic. Reports indicate that Mohammed’s vehicle crossed the centerline, resulting in a head-on collision with Dela Cruz’s car.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) transported Mohammed to Marion General Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries. Tragically, Sandeep Yadav was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. Mahammad Ahmad sustained serious injuries and was taken to OhioHealth Mansfield for treatment. Dela Cruz also suffered minor injuries and was transported to Morrow County Hospital.

It was noted that Ahmad was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, while all other occupants in the vehicles were secured.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office, Morrow County EMS, Mount Gilead Fire Department, Ohio Department of Transportation, and the Morrow County Coroner’s Office. Authorities believe that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
