MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW) — A new scholarship fund at Marion Technical College (MTC) has been established in memory of Randy Myers, a retired firefighter and paramedic from Marion, who passed away in January 2024. The fund aims to assist paramedics transitioning into the nursing field.
Myers, a lifelong Marion resident, dedicated his life to serving his community. His wife of 30 years, Debra Myers, along with family and friends, created the scholarship to continue his legacy.

“Randy was a very giving person,” said Deb Myers. “He did whatever it took to care for his family, his friends, and the community.”
Myers’ career spanned various roles, including a journeyman electrician at his father’s company, Triple Service Electric, a volunteer firefighter, and a driver for Stofcheck Ambulance Service. He later became a full-time firefighter for Marion Township Fire.
“Retired Chief Mike Fogle said Randy was the best pump operator,” Myers recalled. “Every firefighter depends on the pump operator for the water, so it is a critical job.”
The scholarship fund is a fitting tribute to Myers, who believed in education and had a significant impact on his family and community. The Myers family and MTC have expressed their gratitude for the community’s generous support for the fund.
“Randy’s last words were, ‘Whatever it takes,’” recalls Aaron Neiderkohr, Randy’s stepson. “I challenge all of you to keep that spirit going. Dig deeper on the hard days. Do whatever it takes to finish the job, to be a better person, to find God, to fix relationships, to take vacations, and so on. Please let Randy live on through all of us and do ‘whatever it takes.’”
