COLUMBUS, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—With the historic rivalry game between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Michigan Wolverines just days away, the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Unclaimed Funds is calling on Ohioans to help secure a win off the field — and possibly put money back in their wallets.

Ohio is competing in a special “Find Forgotten Funds: The Rivalry Continues” challenge with Michigan to see which state conducts the most searches for unclaimed funds during November. The contest, which began Nov. 1 and ends Nov. 30, taps into the football rivalry between the two states to encourage residents to look for money that belongs to them.

Early results show Ohio in the lead, but officials say it’s important to finish strong.

“Everyone wins in this challenge,” said Susie Wagner, outreach supervisor for the Ohio Division of Unclaimed Funds. “Every search helps bring someone closer to finding potential forgotten money. As you gather with loved ones for Thanksgiving and the big game, we’re asking all Ohioans to take a moment to search their names and start the process of claiming their funds so we can beat Michigan on and off the field this year.”

Ohioans can participate by visiting unclaimedfunds.ohio.gov and searching their name or the names of friends and family. The process is free, takes only a few minutes, and requires no account creation. If funds are found, claims can be filed immediately through the site.

The winner will be determined by the number of completed searches in each state, with results announced the week of Dec. 1.
