MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—A Marion man has died, and another remains in serious condition following a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon at the intersection of State Route 309 and State Route 37.
Troopers from the Marion Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating the collision, which occurred at approximately 3:48 p.m. in Grand Township.
According to preliminary investigators, 34-year-old Manuel Valdez of Marion was traveling northbound on State Route 37 in a 2008 Pontiac G6. Authorities state Valdez failed to yield from a stop sign and was struck by 2017 Buick Enclave driven by 30-year-old Kali Cannode, also of Marion.
Following the impact, the Pontiac traveled off the north side of State Route 309, striking four roadside signs and a concrete post. The Buick Enclave also came to rest off the north side of the roadway.
The passenger in the Pontiac, 65-year-old Cresencio Valdez of Marion, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Marion County Coroner’s Office.
The driver, Manuel Valdez, sustained serious injuries and was transported by MedFlight to The Ohio State University Medical Center.
Cannode and her three passengers—30-year-old Darrick Gorenflo and two juveniles—were transported by Marion Township EMS to Marion General Hospital with minor injuries.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by multiple agencies, including Marion Township Fire and EMS, Marion City EMS, Scioto Valley Fire and EMS, Marseilles Fire, Southeast Hardin Joint Fire EMS, ODOT, and MedFlight.
The crash remains under investigation.
