MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) has selected Trooper Matthias L. Carson as the 2025 Trooper of the Year at the Marion post. The 28-year-old trooper was chosen by his peers for his outstanding service throughout the year.
The selection of Trooper Carson is based on a number of key professional attributes, including leadership abilities, professional ethics, courteous treatment of others, enthusiastic work attitude, and cooperation with supervisors, peers, and the public.
Trooper Carson, a Columbus native, graduated from the Ohio Virtual Academy and earned his commission in January 2020 as a member of the 166th Academy Class. He has been assigned to the Marion Post since his commissioning.
His recognition this year is the third time Trooper Carson has received the honor, having previously been selected as the Marion Post Trooper of the Year in 2022 and 2024. During his service at the post, he has also received the Health and Fitness Award, the Criminal Patrol Award for felony apprehensions, and the Traffic Safety Award.
Trooper Carson is now in contention for the District and State Trooper of the Year awards, which will be announced at a later date.
