MT. GILEAD, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Hundreds lined the streets of Mt. Gilead Wednesday morning to pay their respects to honor the memory of Deputy Daniel Sherrer, who lost his life in the line of duty on Monday evening. Sherrer was shot and killed while responding to a domestic situation on County Road 26 in Marengo.

The procession began at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Montgomery County and made its way to Mt. Gilead, where Sherrer will be honored. The route included travel along Interstate 71 to State Route 61 North, followed by a turn onto South Main Street, ending at Snyder Funeral Home, located at 67 North Main Street in Mt. Gilead. Gov. Mike DeWine has ordered that the flags of the U.S. and the state of Ohio be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout Morrow County, the Ohio Statehouse, the Vern Riffe Center, and the Rhodes State Office Tower today and will remain in effect until sunset on the day of his funeral.
