MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Renowned author Jane Smiley will be visiting Marion on Friday, October 18, for the 8th Annual Speaking Volumes event at the Marion Public Library. This fundraising event is coordinated by the BookMarks, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the Marion Public Library.
The volunteer-run group raises funds through various events, including an annual book sale held at the Library. All proceeds from these events go towards supporting the operations of the Marion Public Library.
Tickets for the Speaking Volumes event are currently on sale and can be purchased at the Library, in the BookMarket, or on the BookMarks’ website at MarionOHBookMarks.org. A $75 ticket includes heavy hors d’oeuvres during an exclusive mingle hour with Smiley starting at 6:00 p.m., just before the program begins at 7:00 p.m. A $30 ticket is available for those who wish to attend only the program, which includes dessert. A cash bar will also be available. Copies of select Jane Smiley titles are on sale now.
Jane Smiley is the author of numerous novels, including “A Thousand Acres,” which won the Pulitzer Prize, and the Last Hundred Years Trilogy: “Some Luck,” “Early Warning,” and “Golden Age.” Her latest novel, “Lucky,” was released in April 2024. She is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters and has received the PEN Center USA Lifetime Achievement Award for Literature. She resides in Northern California.
