MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—The second annual Kingston Chili Cook-Off at Kingston Residence of Marion, was a resounding success, with participants and attendees already looking forward to next year’s event.

Chris LaBelle, representing Powerback Rehab, took home the top prize with his unique smoked-flavored western chili. LaBelle fully embraced the theme, donning a cowboy hat and even bringing a saddle to complete his look.

Dave Steer, culinary supervisor at Kingston, secured second place. Steer’s chili, served over cornbread muffins, was a crowd favorite.

Lorie Jacobs from Tranquility Hospice earned third place in her first year of competition. Jacobs added a sweet twist to the event by attempting to bribe the judges with cupcakes.

Judges for the event were Mayor Bill Collins, Commissioner Kevin Davidson, Judge Theresa Ballinger, and United Way Executive Director Amber Wertman.

The event was filled with fun and camaraderie, with everyone enjoying the diverse chili offerings. Attendees are already marking their calendars for the third annual cook-off, set for National Chili Day on February 26, 2026.

“We had a great time, and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year,” said Bob Goyer of Kingston Residence, one of the event organizers.
