MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—As spring-like weather approaches this week, residents are eager to hit the baseball fields at city parks. However, city officials are urging patience, as the fields are not yet ready for play.

Despite the warmer temperatures, the ground remains saturated and partially frozen due to a cold and wet winter. Officials estimate that it will take three to four days of warm, dry, sunny weather to prepare the fields for safe use.

“We appreciate the enthusiasm for getting out on the fields, but it’s crucial to wait until we announce that they are ready for practice,” a city representative stated. “Playing on wet fields causes significant damage to both the infields and outfields, making them unsafe for everyone.”

When fields are used prematurely, footprints can become embedded in the dirt, creating long-lasting issues that take weeks to resolve. Additionally, damaged areas in the outfield can kill grass and create hidden hazards that may lead to injuries.

“We want the fields to be used, but we need to respect the conditions set by Mother Nature,” the representative added. “Please help us spread the word and share this message with others.”

Residents are encouraged to stay updated on field conditions and wait for confirmation before returning to the baseball diamond.
