Love Your Neighbor FUNdraiser
On August 24, the Friends of Victims Assistance will host the “Love Your Neighbor FUNdraiser” at Shovel City Drinkery. This event aims to raise funds for the construction of a Memorial Garden to honor homicide victims in Marion County. Attendees can look forward to a cornhole tournament, a 50/50 raffle, and live entertainment from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. by the band 50 Steps Up. The event will also feature food trucks and backyard games, making it a fun-filled day for all ages.
RENT at the Marion Palace Theatre
The Marion Palace Theatre will present the iconic musical “RENT” from August 23 to 25. This Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning show, set in New York City’s East Village, follows a group of young artists navigating the challenges of friendship, romance, and the impact of HIV/AIDS. With its powerful narrative and unforgettable rock anthems, “RENT” promises an inspiring theatrical experience. Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on August 23 and 24, and a matinee at 2 p.m. on August 25. Tickets are available for $16, $27, and $29.
3rd Annual Fun Fly at Marion Airport
Aviation enthusiasts won’t want to miss the 3rd Annual Fun Fly at Marion Airport on August 24. Hosted by Marion Airfoils, this event welcomes all types of RC aircraft, including gas, glow, turbine, fixed-wing helicopters, and drones. The day will feature noon demos of aerobatics, glider towing, and 3D helicopters, as well as demonstrations by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office K9 and Drone teams. Simulators will be available for those looking to try their hand at flying. The event starts at 9 a.m., and while there is no landing fee, donations are accepted.
