SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—The Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Wyandot County Major Crimes Unit, is currently investigating a suspicious death that took place early Wednesday morning on County Highway 9.

At approximately 1:42 a.m., deputies responded to a 911 call reporting that an individual had struck a body lying in the roadway. Upon arrival, law enforcement officers, alongside Mohawk EMS and Fire, discovered a deceased male in the road. The Wyandot County Medical Examiner pronounced the individual dead at the scene.

The victim has been transported to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy. Preliminary investigations suggest that the victim died after being struck by a vehicle while standing on County Highway 9. Evidence collected by investigators indicates that the individual had been deceased for an estimated two hours before the 911 call was made.

According to investigators, two separate vehicle strikes are believed to have occurred. The first strike, which resulted in the victim’s death, was followed by a second, post-mortem incident that led to the body’s discovery and the subsequent emergency call.

Surveillance footage indicates that a vehicle, identified as an SUV or station wagon, possibly light in color, was seen traveling north on State Highway 231 before turning west onto County Highway 9 at around 11:34 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22. Authorities suspect this vehicle may have been involved in the initial incident, and that the driver may have fled the scene out of fear.

The Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information regarding the incident, particularly those who may have seen an SUV with damage consistent with this case sustained around April 22, to come forward.
