MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Heat is returning to the kitchen this month as Kingston Residence of Marion hosts its 3rd Annual Chili Cook-Off on Feb. 26. The event, which is open to the public, will feature six competitive local cooks vying for the top prize.

This year’s judging panel features a “collective media” lineup, including Randy Bigley of Marion County Now, Abby Bammerlin of the Marion Star, and Wendy Weichenthal of MarionMade!. The judges will evaluate a diverse range of entries, from traditional red chili to white bean varieties.

“There’s no exact way to make a bowl of chili,” said host Randy Bigley during a recent Community Spotlight segment. “It’s just neat tasting the different varieties.”

The 2026 competitor lineup includes defending champion Chris LaBelle of PowerBack Rehab, Sharon Jordan of Kingston, Linda Dodson of Presidential Post Acute, Josh Rich of CenterWell Home Health, and Tiffany Wilt of Cornerstone Caregiving. Joining the roster for the first time is the Marion Township Fire Department, whose entry is already sparking “five-alarm” expectations.

The event runs from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 464 James Way. Attendees are invited to watch the judging process and sample the chili once the winners are announced.

Beyond the cook-off, Kingston officials announced a busy spring schedule, including a Men’s Breakfast on March 4 featuring BJ Gruber of “Cops on the Bowery,” and the annual Boomer and Senior Expo scheduled for May 22.
