MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Pillar Credit Union, which recently expanded its service area to six North Central Ohio counties, is prioritizing financial literacy and new product offerings, including a specialized Credit Builder Loan.
In a recent interview, Heather Reed, Branch Manager, highlighted the credit union’s evolution from its origins as Marion Community Credit Union 65 years ago. The new name reflects its expanded presence in Marion, Morrow, Crawford, Hancock, Wyandotte, and Richland counties, with locations in Marion and Mount Gilead.
The Credit Builder Loan is designed for individuals new to credit or those looking to recover from a past financial setback. Members can request up to $2,000, which the credit union holds while the member makes installment payments. Upon completion, the funds are released, and the successful payment history is reported to credit bureaus, establishing or rebuilding credit safely.
Pillar also introduced the Pocket Saver feature, a digital equivalent of a “change jar.” The program automatically rounds up debit card purchases to the nearest dollar and deposits the difference into a savings account, helping members automate savings painlessly.
Furthermore, Pillar Credit Union announced upcoming Shred Days for members to safely dispose of sensitive documents for free: October 11 at the Marion Barks Road location and October 18 in Mount Gilead. The financial institution emphasizes its role as a not-for-profit cooperative focused on local decision-making and community support.
