UPPER SANDUSKY, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—The historic Old Mission Church will once again hold its traditional Sunday worship services throughout the summer of 2025, beginning at 8:00 a.m. each week.
These simple and sincere services, a cherished local tradition, will feature traditional hymns and a brief message of faith led by a different community pastor each week.
The opening service on May 4 will feature Wyandot Chief Ted Roll as the speaker.
Worshiping at the Old Mission Church offers a connection to both Christian faith and the rich history of the area. The Wyandot Indians used this sacred space for worship until 1843, marked by Chief Squire Grey Eyes’ farewell address on July 12th of that year. The church underwent restoration in 1889 and was recognized in 1960 as a national historic shrine by the General Conference of the Methodist Church.
The grounds of the Mission Church also serve as the final resting place for numerous prominent Wyandots, alongside generations of local families and friends in the adjacent cemetery.
Organizers invite the community to attend these early morning services, whether drawn by faith, heritage, or a sense of community, as a meaningful way to start their Sundays and reflect on the enduring presence of Christ within their shared history.
