MARION COUNTY (MARION COUNTY NOW)—A significant winter storm, termed “Winter Storm Fern” by The Weather Channel, is poised to bring heavy snowfall and dangerously frigid temperatures to Ohio this weekend.

Andy Hatzos, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Wilmington, emphasized that this “very significant storm” will primarily impact southern and southeastern regions of the state.

The impending storm is part of a larger weather pattern sweeping across much of the United States.
A massive winter system is expected to deliver snow, sleet, and ice from the Plains to the Southeast, extending up toward the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

Southern Ohio is projected to experience the heaviest snowfall and significant ice accumulation, affecting cities such as Cincinnati, Dayton, Chillicothe, Portsmouth, Athens, and Marietta, as well as surrounding counties close to the Ohio River. Central Ohio is also anticipated to receive measurable snowfall.

Hatzos advised residents to brace for hazardous travel conditions and extreme cold that could persist for several days. Snow is forecasted to begin moving into Ohio on the evening of January 24, continuing through the morning of January 25.

While exact snowfall amounts are yet to be determined, forecasters caution that road conditions may deteriorate rapidly once the snow begins to fall.
