MARION COUNTY, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Forecasters are warning of a significant winter weather system that could dump more than 6 inches of snow across north central and northwest Ohio this weekend.

The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a Winter Storm Watch effective from Saturday evening through Monday morning. The watch area includes Crawford, Marion, Morrow, and Richland counties, as well as a broad swath of northern Ohio.

Meteorologists say the heaviest snowfall is expected on Sunday. In addition to the accumulation, a blast of Arctic air will bring dangerous sub-zero wind chills Saturday night and again Sunday night into Monday morning.

The storm is expected to create treacherous driving conditions, likely impacting the Monday morning commute. Authorities are advising residents to consider delaying all non-essential travel.

For those who must be on the roads, safety officials recommend carrying a winter storm kit. Essential items include blankets, extra clothing, a flashlight, a shovel, booster cables, water, and a first aid kit.

The local Police Departments and local sheriff’s offices are monitoring conditions and will provide updates on snow emergency levels as the storm develops. Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts for the latest timing and accumulation totals.
