MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)— The 2026 Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) Winter Crisis Program is currently accepting applications to help low-income Ohioans maintain or restore home heating services during the coldest months of the year.

The program, which runs through March 31, 2026, is designed to assist households in immediate danger of losing their heat. Eligible participants include those whose main heating or electric source is in disconnect status, has been terminated, or requires new or transferred service. Homeowners with less than a 25 percent supply of bulk fuel—such as propane, fuel oil, or kerosene—are also urged to apply.

Crisis benefits vary based on the utility provider. Customers of regulated utilities may receive up to $175, while those using municipal utilities or cooperatives are eligible for up to $750. Significant relief is also available for bulk fuel users, with benefits reaching up to $1,200 for propane and oil, and $650 for wood or pellets.

In addition to bill payment assistance, the program can assist homeowners with fuel tank placement, testing, and furnace repairs of up to $1,500.

Applicants must provide a comprehensive list of documentation, including photo ID for all adults, proof of citizenship for all household members (including minors), current gas and electric bills, and proof of income for the last 30 days. Seasonal and self-employed workers must provide 12 months of income verification.
