MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Ohio State University at Marion professor Dr. Ben McCorkle will lead a community discussion on five decades of local literary history during the upcoming “Buckeye Talks on Tap” event on Tuesday, May 19.

The presentation, titled A Literary Legacy: Cornfield Review at 50, begins at 5:30 p.m. at Bucci’s Italian Scratch Kitchen. The session will explore the origins and regional influence of The Cornfield Review, a literary journal established on the Marion campus in 1976.

As a Professor of English and long-time advisor for the publication, McCorkle will provide a brief history of the journal and share a selection of readings from its extensive archive. Attendees will also have the opportunity to browse physical copies of past editions.

“The Cornfield Review has served as a centerpiece of the creative community not only of the Marion campus, but in the central Ohio region and beyond,” organizers noted.

McCorkle, an expert in composition and digital media, is the author of several books on rhetoric and technology and serves as the co-director of the Digital Archive of Literacy Narratives.

The event is part of the “Buckeye Talks on Tap” series, which is modeled after the international Science Café movement. The series aims to bring scholars and the public together in casual settings to discuss relevant regional and national topics.

Doors open at 5:00 p.m. at Passenger & Rail Co., located at 320 W. Center St. The lecture will be followed by a Q&A session. While the event is free and open to the public, guests are welcome to purchase food and drinks. Attendees will also be entered into a door prize drawing provided by Anchor and Away Travel.
