MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW) — A 74-year-old Marion man has been arrested after a bomb threat disrupted a city council meeting and forced the evacuation of Marion City Hall earlier this week, according to local authorities.
Michael Lundquist was taken into custody on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2026, and charged with Swatting.
He is currently being held at the Multi-County Correctional Center.
The incident began around 6:31 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 26, when Marion County Central Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call from an unactivated mobile device. The male caller claimed two explosives had been planted—one inside City Hall and another inside a vehicle parked outside—and gave emergency operators a false location.
The threat occurred while the Marion City Council was actively in session.
Officials immediately called a temporary recess and ordered a full evacuation of the building so law enforcement could search the premises and investigate the report.
Investigators with the Marion Police Department successfully traced the non-network device used to make the call. On Tuesday, Oct. 27, police executed a search warrant at a residence located in the 800 block of Woodrow Avenue, where they recovered the device linked to the threat.
Police noted that the investigation remains active and that additional charges against Lundquist are anticipated.
“The Marion Police Department takes all threats to public safety seriously,” the department said in a statement. “False reports and swatting incidents divert emergency resources, place first responders and the public at risk, and will be thoroughly investigated.”
