MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—A 32-year-old man from Marion County has been indicted on several charges for allegedly reproducing child sexual abuse material, with investigators now probing potential connections to local youth groups.
Phillip Vanscoy was arrested following a tip to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Court records reveal that he is accused of downloading numerous images depicting child sexual abuse.
“These images are of children engaging in sexual acts. By virtue of that, they are extremely alarming and they are illegal,” stated Marion County Prosecutor Ray Grogan.
According to investigators, Vanscoy utilized the messaging app Kik, known for its disappearing messages and anonymity features. Messages reviewed during the investigation indicated Vanscoy’s interest in becoming involved with youth organizations.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating whether Vanscoy participated in any youth groups or had inappropriate interactions with children. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to reach out to the sheriff’s office.
In addition to the charges related to child sexual abuse material, Vanscoy faces one count of tampering with evidence.
