MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—A long-standing program dedicated to breaking the cycle of generational poverty is officially expanding its footprint into Crawford County.

Marion Matters, which has served the Marion community since 2011, announced the launch of “Crawford Matters” following successful pilot programming and support from the United Way of North Central Ohio and the Crawford Community Foundation. The initiative utilizes the “Bridges Out of Poverty” framework, focusing on stabilizing individuals by building 11 key resources, including financial, emotional, and social capital.

“We’re looking at a holistic approach,” said Natalie Longmeier, Executive Director. “We aren’t just handing out a resource; we are educating and training a mindset to help people become all around a little more stable.”

The expansion includes the “Getting Ahead” curriculum, currently operating at the Crawford Success Center, and the addition of a community resource navigator to connect residents with housing, employment, and financial literacy support. With nearly 500 graduates in Marion to date, organizers hope to replicate that success by empowering Crawford County residents to move from instability to self-sufficiency.
