MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Marion City Council held its committee meetings on Monday evening, during which the Legislation, Codes, and Regulations committee, chaired by Councilman Mike Neff, discussed and crafted an amendment to existing legislation regarding deer hunting within the city limits.

The committee has proposed that property owners with parcels of land measuring between 3 to 5 acres will be allowed to hunt deer using a crossbow or sling and arrow. Hunting activities must be conducted from an elevated stand, which must be at least six feet off the ground.

To ensure compliance, hunters must either be the property owner or possess express written permission from the owner to hunt on the land. It is important to note that hunting will not be permitted in parks that meet the specified land requirements, such as Lincoln Park in Marion.

When concerns were raised regarding the potential impact of this amendment on the police department, it was clarified that police involvement would only occur if a complaint was received. In such instances, officers would verify that the hunter is adhering to all necessary regulations, and citations could be issued for non-compliance.

The committee, consisting of Councilmen Mike Neff, Thaddaeus Smith, and Jason Schaber, voted unanimously to forward the amendment to the full council for approval and implementation.
