MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—A 19-year-old Toledo man was arrested late Sunday night after allegedly breaking into a vehicle inside an attached garage and fleeing from officers, according to the Marion Police Department.
Officers were dispatched around 11 p.m. to the intersection of Fairfax Road and Crescent Heights Road after a resident reported three individuals dressed in all-black clothing who appeared to be breaking into vehicles. The tipster informed dispatch that one suspect had entered an attached garage at a nearby apartment complex.
Officer Greer arrived on scene to speak with the witness and the victim, confirming a suspect had entered the garage and accessed a vehicle inside.
While searching the area, officers from the department’s second and third shifts spoke with employees at a nearby Taco Bell, who spotted a male wearing all-black clothing crossing Delaware Avenue near Arby’s. When officers approached the individual, he fled on foot.
Officers Adair and Mauldin pursued the suspect through an apartment complex before taking him into custody near Crescent Heights Road and Barks Road. Authorities later confirmed the suspect was the same individual who had entered the Fairfax Road garage.
The identity of the 19-year-old suspect was not immediately released.
Police expressed gratitude to the resident who reported the suspicious activity, citing the incident as a success for community policing and collaboration between shifts.
